January 22nd 2010, Issue #61
This week’s news brings with it a more positive feel for the property market in 2010. Cautious optimism appears to be the order of the day.
House prices have risen 1.2 per cent after a buoyant start to the year and 2010 is pegged to be a great year for the buy to let market. Lending also appears to be increasing – following the news that December saw an unexpected jump in the number of deals, as purchasers raced to buy ahead of the stamp duty ‘holiday’ coming to an end, there are now some 2,500 products available on the home loans market – the best level since May 2009.
On the flip side, mortgage provider Skipton Building Society has shocked customers by adding an extra £2,000 onto mortgage bills – this has been blamed on the exceptional circumstances triggered by the ‘Credit Crunch’. Lastly, we look at why an old terrace house wastes less energy than an eco house and how a bit of ‘argy bargey’ makes the perfect home.
Research has showed that house prices jumped by 1.2 per cent during the first week of January as confident new sellers increased their asking prices triggering a buoyant start to 2010.
