12th February 2010 Issue #64
Here we are with this week’s property news round-up. Following on from last week there is still plenty of news surrounding lending with Mervyn King stating that the mortgage special liquidity scheme will not be extended and lenders have slowly been creeping up their variable mortgage rates despite the Bank of England keeping rates on hold for 11 months.
Elsewhere the home-buying front is still proving challenging with the numbers of homes for sale at an all time low since 2007 and estate agents stating that snow and freezing conditions almost brought the property market to a halt last month. Also this week, it’s been confirmed that home repossessions hit an all time high in 2009 with around 46,000 people having their property repossessed.
Finally this week, the simple garden shed is evolving with the launch of the slightly ‘hobbit’ styled ‘Dome Home’ – no, you haven’t fallen into a Lord of the Rings scene - this is a new development set to sweep the country – or so they say.
The Bank of England Governor Mervyn King has said that the mortgage special liquidity scheme will not be extended.
