26th February 2010 Issue #66
Here we are with this week’s property news round-up - there’s plenty happening in the market this week. According to Nationwide, UK house prices have fallen for the first time in 10 months but the building society states it’s too early to say if this is the start of a sustained drop. On the flip slide home ownership falls to its lowest level in nearly 20 years while the rental sector booms with an increase of more than one million people renting from a private landlord during the past few years.
According to a new report, home buyers and sellers need an alternative to traditional estate agents to shake up the sector and ensure better value, and in the mortgage arena, Skipton Building Society may face a legal challenge over its plans to raise its standard variable rate mortgage for 64,000 borrowers.
And on a lighter note this week – the urban architects that are making the most out of petite properties and why you should always be cautious if something is being sold for less than its value – sadly this couple weren’t and their clifftop garden ended up in the sea just six days after paying £150,000 for a sea view property!
