Under the new coalition government the use of Home Information Packs (Hips) by home sellers has been scrapped this week, one of the few announcements by the new regime that will undoubtedly be met with near universal praise. In other property news from the government, David Cameron has claimed that the owners of second homes should pay higher taxes; and the new MPs have agreed that housing is a priority.
Elsewhere in the market positive news emerges with mortgage approvals rising 25 per cent during March as housing activity bounces back up. According to the Council of Mortgage Lenders around 45,000 mortgages were lent for house purchase during the month, up from 36,000 in February.
And finally, who thought that flats were cramped and didn’t afford you much space? Not so with Whittinghame House in Scotland - the overall floor area is 9,000 sq ft, which is about one fifth of an acre and it can all be yours for the bargain prce of £2.5m!
