House prices stagnated in June, rising only 0.1 per cent according to the latest figures released by Nationwide Building Society this week. This will go some way in supporting industry speculation that the housing market recovery is flagging.
Elsewhere, research conducted by easyroommate.co.uk discovered that UK tenants face the highest rents in western Europe, with the average amount paid by a tenant for a room in a shared house being £348 per month. The group blamed the high cost of renting a room on the lack of mortgage finance currently available, which it said was forcing potential first-time buyers to continue renting.
And finally, what is the one thing we look for in a new home - a large kitchen, front and rear gardens, an en suite bathroom?...Apparently not. According to research, 83 per cent of UK residents have their views damaged by light pollution, meaning a dark sky is one of the latest must-haves. Enlightening!
