This week the Communities Secretary, Eric Pickles officially abolished regional house building quotas. Originally set by Labour in response to the shortage of homes, it has proved unpopular and so instead, the new Government will provide direct incentives to communities to encourage them to support the construction of new homes.
In other news, a survey conducted by a property website has determined the lack of mortgage availability is one of the key problems facing the housing market recovery, with more than a third of respondents citing this as the biggest ongoing threat.
And finally, it’s the largest piece of land to come on the market in England and Wales in living history. Indeed, the estate in Powys is a mammoth 23,315 acres – twice the size of Manhattan in fact. The land features 14 farms, 31 cottages and its very own reservoir. Perfect. Now that’ll just be £11 million please!
Councils will be offered financial incentives to build more houses as the Government abolishes centrally imposed quotas.
